A Crossbowman

Another guy finished for my Frostgrave warband. This guy didn't turn out quite as good at the first one, but I am still decently happy with him. This guy is more straigth out of the box, with the only addition being a sword from another kit.

A thug

I've managed to finish painting the first model from the Frostgrave nickstarter:

These minis certainly have a lot of detail - In fact, they are very close to having the level of fiddly bits I normally shy away from. Still - I think the end result is quite nice, and look forward to having some more of these guys painted. It just takes me a lot longer than my usual miniatures.

He'll make a nice bandit in a Open Combat warband when he is not serving in Frostgrave.

Basing - A short tutorial

Today, I thought I'd do a short walk-through/tutorial on how I do my bases.

A zealous crusader knight charges across the blasted earth.
For a long time, I was never quite happy with how my bases turned out. So I did a lot of experimenting with colours and styles, until I hit on this formula, which I basically use for everything now. I am still refining it though, and adding new things to the technique. An example is the rocks and slabs, which are a recent thing I've picked up on.

So in this post, we'll be going from this:

Frostgrave-things!

This arrived today:

It's been quite a bit of time since I got such a large box of goodies, so I was quite excited to get stuck in.

Dwarf Squad

Tough nutters - The dwarves fill the role of shock infantry, often charging towards the largest and most dangerous group of enemies they can find.
Phew! That's one more unit finished. More Alternative Armies dwarves, with a single old Citadel dwarf thrown into the mix. ostly because I thought it was such a cool sculpt.

Dwarf Thain Jorm Sternaxe

Just a quick little update today.

I finished another one of my Alternative Armies dwarves:

Another excellent sculpt. Lots of fun - He'll be the leader of my dwarf unit, which is what I am working on now, while I wait for my general and standard bearer for the foot knights.

They'll propable be played as a unit of Men-at-Arms in Lion Rampant (for fantasy-themed games) or their own warband for Open Combat and SoBH.

Horve City Guard

A Cleric leads a patrol into the woods.
In the heavily wooded valley of Oakenshire lies the city Horve. In it both dwarves and humans live together, the men plowing the fields outside its walls, and the dwarves working the forges and mines underneath. The valley is ruled by the human count and the dwarven council, to ensure that the interests of both people are honoured.
Horve is protected by the staunch City Guard. A diverse fighting force tasked with keeping the valley safe. Thus, they patrol far and wide, being more of a small military force. There are small garrisons spread out across the valley, so the villages and hamlets can be aided, should they come under attack.
